How to “size” signs

How to size

Signs are best measured in feet (i.e. 3 x 5 ft) or in inches (18 x 12 in) if quite small, prefer using the imperial system. We try to avoid using the metric system unless absolutely necessary.
(see conversion system here)

It is also best to avoid words such as “length” or “width”, as most people confuse the two.
We prefer to use simple terms such as:

“top to bottom” or “tall”
“left to right” or “across”

When working with a circular sign, use “diameter”.

A signs area needs to be calculated so that we can accurately quote you a price. This is why it is important to get the sizing correct. Please see the diagram below.

*Note:
Don’t be fooled by a sign that looks too big when you are up close to it…
if you need a sign that needs to be seen from far or from the road, then don’t be shy to get a “big” sign. What may appear big when you are up close may end up appearing really small from afar.
